Knee Pain
Front, side, deep or below the kneecap. Where and when it hurts is what tells the causes apart.
Physiotherapy pillar
One-to-one assessment and treatment for everyday pain, stiffness and movement problems, at two clinics in Bengaluru.
No referral needed · One-to-one throughout · Available at both clinics
General physiotherapy is hands-on treatment and guided exercise for pain, stiffness and restricted movement, the everyday problems that make ordinary things harder than they should be. A back that seizes up after a long drive. A shoulder that will not reach the top shelf. A knee that complains on the stairs.
General physiotherapy suits you if you have pain or stiffness that has not settled on its own, if an old problem keeps returning, or if something is limiting your work, your sleep or the things you enjoy. It is equally for people who are not in pain but have lost movement or confidence, after a period of inactivity, an illness, or simply with age.
You do not need to be an athlete, and you do not need to have had an injury. Most of the people we see have neither.
Your first visit is one-to-one with a physiotherapist and is mostly conversation and examination. Wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows the affected area to be seen and moved. You will be asked about your work, your sleep, your activity and what you are trying to get back to, all of it relevant.
Treatment usually begins in the same session. Hands-on work may be firm in places but should not be something you have to endure; tell your therapist if it is. You will leave with two or three things to do at home and a clear idea of what happens next. Some people feel looser immediately; others feel a little sore for a day, which is normal and settles.
How long each session takes and how many you need is decided at your assessment, not before it. It depends on what is causing the problem and how long you have had it. You will be given an estimate after the first visit rather than asked to buy a package in advance.
What it is used for
Generated from the condition pages themselves, so this list and the treatments named on each of those pages are always the same list read from two directions.
Front, side, deep or below the kneecap. Where and when it hurts is what tells the causes apart.
pain in the lower back
Pain between the ribs and the legs. Common, rarely dangerous, and generally responsive to movement and strengthening.
age-related wear in the spine
Age-related change in the spine, very common on scans of people with no symptoms at all. The structure does not reverse; the symptoms often improve.
Before you book
No. You can book directly with a physiotherapist in India without a referral. If your assessment suggests you need medical investigation or another specialist, we will tell you and point you in the right direction rather than treating around it.
General physiotherapy is the starting point for everyday pain and stiffness. Musculoskeletal therapy is for a specific structural problem that has been identified. Sports physiotherapy is for athletes and active people with performance and return-to-sport goals. If you are unsure which applies, book a general assessment, sorting that out is part of the first visit.
It should not be. Some hands-on techniques feel firm, and it is common to be a little sore for a day afterwards, particularly after the first session. Nothing should be so painful that you have to brace through it. Say so if it is, and it will be adjusted.
Many people notice some change within the first two or three sessions, though a lasting result usually depends on the exercise programme as much as on the treatment. How long the problem has already been present is the biggest single factor. Your therapist will give you a realistic estimate after assessing you.
Comfortable clothing that allows the affected area to be examined and moved, shorts for a knee or hip problem, a vest or loose top for a shoulder or neck problem. Bring any relevant scans or reports if you have them, though they are not required.
