Draft, awaiting clinical review

The copy on this page is written and is waiting on clinical sign-off. It carries noindex and stays out of the sitemap until a clinician reviews it and a review date is recorded, which is what makes the medical statements on it attributable.

The Sports Recovery Centre covers the whole arc of athletic care: assessing an injury, treating it, rehabilitating it properly, and getting you back to your sport at the level you left it. It also covers the work that happens when nothing is wrong, screening, testing, conditioning and recovery.

The difference from general physiotherapy is the endpoint. Here the goal is not just a pain-free day but a return to load, speed and competition, which requires testing rather than assuming you are ready.

Which one do you need?

You are injured and want it treated. Sports Physiotherapy for assessment and treatment, then Sports Injury Rehabilitation for the return-to-play work.

Something keeps recurring, or you want to prevent it. Sports Injury Assessment & Screening looks for what is causing the pattern.

You want to know where you stand physically. Athlete Testing Lab measures strength, power and asymmetry objectively.

You are a runner with a recurring problem. Running & Gait Analysis, often alongside Podiatrics & Custom Insoles.

You want to get stronger or more robust. Strength & Conditioning.

You are training hard and want to recover better between sessions. Recovery Therapies and Sports Massage.

Not sure? Book an assessment. Sorting this out is part of the first visit.

What it is used for

Conditions we treat with this

Generated from the condition pages themselves, so this list and the treatments named on each of those pages are always the same list read from two directions.

  • Achilles Tendinopathy

    Achilles tendon pain

Pain and stiffness in the Achilles tendon. Mid-portion and insertional behave differently, and the distinction changes the programme.

  • ACL Tear & Knee Ligament Injury

    knee ligament injury

A twisting or pivoting injury to the knee's stabilising ligaments. The rehabilitation determines the outcome more than the surgical decision does.

  • Ankle Sprain

    twisted ankle

A ligament injury that heals faster than the balance and control it takes away. That gap is why sprains recur.

  • Hamstring Strain

    pulled hamstring

A tear at the back of the thigh, with one of the highest reinjury rates in sport. Strength at long muscle lengths is what changes that.

  • Heel Pain

Under the heel, behind it, or around the sides. The location and the timing are what separate the causes.

  • Knee Pain

Front, side, deep or below the kneecap. Where and when it hurts is what tells the causes apart.

  • Meniscus Tear

    knee cartilage tear

A tear in the knee's load-spreading cartilage. Acute traumatic tears and degenerative ones behave differently and are managed differently.

  • Plantar Fasciitis

pain under the heel, worst on the first steps of the day

The commonest cause of heel pain. A tissue-loading problem, which is why it responds to loading rather than to rest.

  • Rotator Cuff Injury

    shoulder tendon injury

Tendinopathy through to full-thickness tears in the four muscles that stabilise the shoulder. A tear on a scan is not automatically the cause.

  • Shin Splints

    shin pain in runners

Pain along the inner shin in runners. A load problem that can progress toward a stress fracture if it is worked through.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a competitive athlete?

No. Most people we see here train regularly rather than compete. If you run, lift, play a sport at any level, or your problem is limiting your training, this is the right place.

How is this different from general physiotherapy?

The goal. General physiotherapy aims to resolve pain and restore normal function. Sports care aims to return you to a specific athletic demand, which means testing that you can actually meet it before you go back.

Can I come for testing without being injured?

Yes. Screening and testing are among the most useful things we do, and they are most useful before something goes wrong.
