Draft, awaiting clinical review

The copy on this page is written and is waiting on clinical sign-off. It carries noindex and stays out of the sitemap until a clinician reviews it and a review date is recorded, which is what makes the medical statements on it attributable.

Assessment of how you run and walk, using video alongside a physical examination of strength, mobility and control.

Most running injuries come from training load rather than technique, doing too much too soon is the commonest cause by a distance. But mechanics contribute, and where they do, they can often be changed. Assessment covers both.

Who it helps

You get the same running injury repeatedly. You are increasing mileage and want to do it sensibly. You are returning to running after injury. Or you have been told you overpronate and are unsure what that means for you.

Conditions we treat with this

Shin Splints, Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Pain, Achilles Tendinopathy, Knee Pain.

How it works

  1. Training history. Weekly mileage, recent changes, surfaces, shoes, and when symptoms appear. Usually the most informative part.
  2. Physical assessment. Strength, mobility and control at the hip, knee, ankle and foot.
  3. Video analysis. Running recorded and reviewed frame by frame.
  4. What to change. Load, mechanics, footwear, or a combination, with reasons.
  5. Retraining. Where a change in mechanics is warranted, it is coached gradually, not switched overnight.

What to expect

Bring your running shoes, all the pairs you use, and running kit. You will run while being filmed.

You will see your own footage and have it explained. Most people find this the most useful part, because it is the first time they have seen how they actually run.

Why Le Yantra for this

  • Load and mechanics assessed together, not mechanics alone
  • Video you can keep and compare against later
  • Podiatrics & Custom Insoles available where footwear or foot mechanics are the issue
  • Honest about when technique is not the problem

What it is used for

Conditions we treat with this

Generated from the condition pages themselves, so this list and the treatments named on each of those pages are always the same list read from two directions.

  • Achilles Tendinopathy

    Achilles tendon pain

Pain and stiffness in the Achilles tendon. Mid-portion and insertional behave differently, and the distinction changes the programme.

  • Heel Pain

Under the heel, behind it, or around the sides. The location and the timing are what separate the causes.

  • Knee Pain

Front, side, deep or below the kneecap. Where and when it hurts is what tells the causes apart.

  • Plantar Fasciitis

pain under the heel, worst on the first steps of the day

The commonest cause of heel pain. A tissue-loading problem, which is why it responds to loading rather than to rest.

  • Shin Splints

    shin pain in runners

Pain along the inner shin in runners. A load problem that can progress toward a stress fracture if it is worked through.

Frequently asked questions

Should I change my running form?

Only if there is a good reason. Changing mechanics carries its own injury risk, and for many runners the answer is load management rather than a new technique.

Do I need custom insoles?

Sometimes. Often not. The assessment establishes whether they would help before anything is prescribed.

I was told I overpronate. Is that bad?

Pronation is normal movement and the amount varies between people. It is not by itself a problem or a diagnosis.
