Rehabilitation pillar
Getting a limb working again after a cast, splint or sling comes off.
No referral needed · One-to-one throughout · Available at both clinics
Draft, awaiting clinical review
The copy on this page is written and is waiting on clinical sign-off. It carries
noindex and stays out of the sitemap until a clinician reviews it and a review
date is recorded, which is what makes the medical statements on it attributable.
Physiotherapy after a fracture, or after any period of immobilisation. A limb that has been in a cast for six weeks comes out stiff, weak and often swollen, that is expected, not a complication, but it does not resolve on its own quickly.
Treatment restores joint movement, rebuilds the muscle lost, manages residual swelling, and returns the limb to normal use.
Your cast, splint or sling has come off and the limb does not work properly. You had a fracture treated surgically and need rehabilitation. Or you have stiffness and weakness persisting well after the bone healed.
Ankle Sprain, plus post-fracture presentations across the upper and lower limb.
Bring your imaging reports and any instructions from your treating doctor, particularly about how much weight the limb can take.
Early movement work is uncomfortable, a stiff joint does not become mobile without being moved. It should be manageable and it should be explained.
Before you book
Yes. Muscle is lost quickly during immobilisation. It comes back with loading, though it takes longer to rebuild than it did to lose.
Depends on the fracture, the site and how long it was immobilised. You will get an estimate at assessment.
Within what your doctor has allowed, yes, but check first, because it depends on whether the fracture is fully united.
